Kayann Barrett – MSN, APRN, FNP-C CLT

Biography

Kayann Barrett is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Wound Care and Dermatology. She is from the island of Jamaica and was fortunate to have the opportunity to migrate to Florida with her daughter, pursuing a vision of creating a better life.

She began her journey in medicine in 2009 when she became a License Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) This sparked an interest in medicine and propelled her to obtain her bachelor’s degree in health administration in 2015. After working as a PTA for over 12 years, she decided to embark on a new journey in nursing. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Miami Regional University through their bridge program in 2021 and further advanced her studies by obtaining a post-graduate certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2022. Her passion for wound care developed during her time as a registered nurse with Kindred Hospital. In this role, she cared for numerous patients with various wounds, witnessing firsthand the transformation and healing process. This experience ignited her dedication to wound care, ultimately leading to her specializing in the field.

One of Kayann’s greatest strengths is her trustworthiness and reliability. She believes that a dependable and dedicated healthcare provider prioritizes their patients’ needs. Another strength that she portrays is continual learning and improvement. She is committed to continuous learning, staying updated with the latest medical advancements and evidence-based practices to enhance her skills. Her passion for healthcare was shaped by personal experience. As a young adult, she became the primary caretaker for her mother, who suffered a terminal illness. Through this role, she witnessed firsthand the profound impact a single caregiver can have on an individual’s life. This experience shaped her patient care philosophy, which is rooted in empathy, active listening, shared decision-making, and open communication.
